All our events are meant for you – even if it’s your first time stopping by. We hope to see you soon and hear what you want to do with your neighbors. We are offering microgrants to new hosts! Microgrants can be used for snacks, supplies, or whatever else makes hosting possible. | July 2026 Welcome! Every month we have new neighbors receiving this newsletter for the first time. Welcome, we’re glad you found us! We have a number of great events coming up in July. Our goal is connection and abundance for all neighbors in and near Columbia City. We are building our shared future together. All our events are meant for you – even if it’s your first time stopping by. We hope to see you soon and hear what you want to do with your neighbors. Upcoming Events!  Brunch Potluck! July 3rd, 10AMRSVP for Location! A neighbor has kindly offered to host this casual daytime get-together; RSVP for address. Please bring a brunch item to share if you can.RSVP  Garage Sale and Rainier Valley Food Bank Collection! July 12th, 9AM – 2PM Check event details for location! We are selling some items at the Lakewood Garage Sale to fund our next events. We’re also collecting items for the Rainier Valley Food Bank! When touring last month we were introduced to ways to support this organization. Event Details  Community Potluck July 15th 5:30 – 8PM Genesee Park Picnic Shelter (north of Genesee Ave) Come by to share a meal! Bring your dogs, your children, your musical instruments, your frisbees! We will be in Genesee park, near the playground. The picnic shelter is north of Genesee Ave; park and head north to the shelter near the playground and bathrooms. Info  Street Clean July 19th 9:30 AM – 11 AM Yuu Tea Street clean with us! We’ll start at Yuu Tea near Walgreens on Rainier. Supplies are provided!Info  Neighborhood Read: I Never Thought About It That Way July 28th 7PM – 8:30PM Third Place Books Seward Park The first book club was great fun! Join your neighbors to discuss I Never Thought of It That Way by Mónica Guzmán. The book this month is a guide for having productive conversations across political divides by using curiosity instead of confrontation, offering practical tools to understand other worldviews and find common ground. Book completion is never required to join the conversation! Info Launching Community Supply Sharing!  We’re launching a community borrowing system to lend each other tools, gear, and equipment (folding chairs and tables, electric screwdrivers, bear cannisters, you name it!). Share Supplies Beyond July Mark your calendar: August 16th (Sunday!!) will be our August Potluck. We’re experimenting with a weekend potluck in the summer so that we can have more chill time and reach neighbors who have never joined. In Seek Of: South Seattle Clubs and Community Groups! There was karaoke, excellent cherries, and several new neighbors who just walked by! Tour and Table: Rainier Valley Food Bank Thank you to the Rainier Valley Food Bank for introducing us to your mission and space! Is there a local organization you’d like to learn more about? Neighbors Club events like the potluck and 206 Day are hosted and organized by neighbors. There are many ways to be a neighbor and it’s more fun together. Perfect timing for the Buddy Read square on Seattle Public Library’s Summer Book Bingo. Join your neighbors to discuss Deciding to See, by Nathan Vass. This essay collection by a Seattle bus driver shares a unique perspective on human connection, transit, and our city. Bingo Signup May Activities Neighbors Day! Donuts, meeting new neighbors, and doing trash pickup – what’s more fun than that? We had a beautiful day and met many new neighbors walking past Ferdinand Festival Street. A special thank you to the neighbors who gifted a couple dozen donuts to celebrate.  May Potluck We were too busy chatting to catch a picture! Thank you to our wonderful volunteers and attendees who made this a great event – our first ever outdoors potluck! There were bubbles, badminton, and buns with hotdogs in them. Columbia City Historical Walking Tour Thank you to the Rainier Valley Historical Society for a rad walking tour of Columbia City! Celebrating Eid We helped over 700 folks have a wonderful Eid al-Adha celebration! Columbia City Neighbors Club volunteers showed up in force to help this Rainier Vista cultural celebration be a success. April Interdependence Potluck At our April potluck, we didn’t just share a meal – we reflected on our interdependence and hosted the kickoff for a national relay on the theme! We were honored to be written up by the South Seattle Emerald – check out the article here: A Columbia City Club Helps Kick Off National Effort to Forge Local Connections – South Seattle Emerald At the potluck we asked neighbors to complete this sentence: “One year from now, I hope I know a neighbor well enough to…” Here’s a few things that your neighbors said: Be of service – Help on anything – Talk about disability – Bump into a friend on the sidewalk – Know the door code – Share garbage collection costs – Drop in with 5 minutes notice – Always have someone to have coffee with – Babysit – Ask them to babysit – Get help building a house – Batch cook together – Borrow baking soda – Trade dog care – Ask for a ride home from the airport Mend, Craft, and Repair Day Mending at the library was a big success! We are looking for more champions for mend, craft, and repair events.   Clothing Swap We were too busy swapping clothes to catch a picture! Thank you to our wonderful volunteers who made this a great event. Tasveer and Marination Thank you to newly opened movie theater (and non-profit) Tasveer for hosting us for a tour; afterwards we shared snacks at local favorite Marination. Submit your classified item here Recent Neighbors Club activities We celebrated 206 Day with moss dancing and by giving out 40+ hot dogs on Ferdinand Festival Street   We made Valentine’s Day cards together – including a card for Columbia City that was posted on the street for a couple days. Check out the results below  We shared a meal at February Potluck  We met up for the Mardi Gras first line parade  We did a rainy short-notice street cleanup and picked up multiple bags of trash  Posted on Rainier: What do you love about Columbia City?  Upcoming Events  Bike Works and Billiard Hoang Join one or both!February 25th Bike Works is more than just a bike shop – find out how much more! We will tour of the shop and then move to the Hudson Building to tour the office and warehouse space to learn about our neighborhood bike shop and how its ecosystem works through donations, youth and adult programs, and social and environmental justice. After the tour, we’ll walk to Billiard Hoang, a fantastic local Vietnamese restaurant. Each attendee will cover their own costs; if this is a barrier, please email us and we’ll help out! | Jan 2026 Hi Neighbors! A busy start to 2026! There are quite a few events coming up. Thanks for neighboring together! Upcoming Neighbors Club Events Neighbors Potluck: January 21st, 5:30 – 7:30PM, New Freeway Hall. We’ll have time to talk about where Neighbors Club is and how it could evolve, so bring your curiosity and any ideas you’ve been percolating! Seward Park Sunset Saunter: January 23rd, 4PM, Audubon Center, Seward Park. Come join your neighbors for a Friday sunset walk at Seward park. We’ll meet at the Audubon Center then do an averagely paced loop around the park. Maybe the mountain will even be out. Rain or shine! 206 Day! February 6th, 6PM, Ferdinand Festival Street. Grab a warm drink and come stand in the cold with your neighbors. There will be a Neighbor Welcoming at 6PM, then hot dogs and moss dancing. Volunteers welcome! Valentine Card Crafting! February 8th, 2:30 – 5PM, Library meeting room downstairs. Craft supplies provided! More details and optional RSVP here. Volunteers welcome! Wrap Up and Resources: Is Columbia City Ready for ICE? On January 4th over 50 Columbia City neighbors at the library gathered to share resources and make connections so we can keep all our neighbors safe. From Around the Neighborhood January 17th (today): Rainier Valley Greenways – Safe Streets is hosting a community visioning event today at the library from 4-5:30PM on transit safety. Details here.
